Having supplemental books in my classroom will help students to understand and appreciate the diverse cultures and ethnicities in my Ethnic Studies instruction. The books requested include "The Colors of Us", "The Skin I am In", Black is Brown is Tan", and "Bippity Bob Barbershop". These books all reflect the diverse students in my classroom. Having the theme of "Positive Racial Identity," these books will promote reading engagement, reading skills and an appreciation for literature and our human differences. Having multiple copies of each book promotes partner reading, group reading and provides opportunities for best practice instruction. My enthusiasm for reading motivates students to read more about the cultures in our building. I believe DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH!

About my class
