Reading is a habit that needs to be inculcated, especially in the young. No one is born with an instinct to read. Furthermore, the behavior of reading itself requires consistent, daily practice for it to become automatized. Therefore, the objective of the reading program I propose is to emphasize the real-world behavior and content of reading, as opposed to processes that often only deter the reading they purport to advance. In other words, I want to create a reading program in which students actually read both in school and at home and not just talk about reading or fake they’ve read by submitting plagiarized reports. Put another way, no diorama, picture, or skit can replace a student actually completing a book they find relevant to their lives.
