I teach 3rd grade at a Title 1 (high poverty) school in Mount Vernon, Washington. At our school, almost 80% of the children receive free and reduced meals. Most of the students come from homes where their parents did not receive a high school education and school is one of the positive influences to stay on the right track to escape pressures by gang interactions. We strive for an equitable learning environment where we work hard to maintain high levels of engagement, positive impact, and high academic rigor to close the achievement gap. These students are incredibly deserving and show perseverance to better their future. Best practices show that good instruction occurs when students are engaged in learning they learn best by doing. With your support, we can create the best possible learning environment to maximize student engagement!
