This project will be an amazing addition to these second graders' educational lives. As research shows, math manipulatives help engage students and make abstract ideas clearer (especially to ELL students). The math dice will be used to increase their math fluency. For example, they will roll the dice with a partner and either add or subtract the numbers. The money puzzles will be used while students are learning the values of coins and dollars. This activity would be most beneficial in math groups; particularly in the independent center. Along with having solid math students, it's also important to have strong readers. I have chosen a few literacy items to help support my "Literacy Corner". The listening center, audio books and a couple of bean bags will help provide a comfortable, fun and motivating environment to help students become the best readers (which will lead to the best writers). I will use these items in reading groups. There will be a "Listening Station" and a "Reading Corner" where I will utilize the CD player, audio books, headphones, and bean bags.
