I want to fill my classroom with books! My kindergarteners are just beginning their reading lives. I want to connect them with high interest texts that engage them--and teach them that stories in books can be just as interesting, if not more so, than video games and TV shows. My only issue: as a first year teacher in a resource-limited urban school, my classroom currently lacks the funds to create this type of environment. Your donation to this project will provide my students with the resources they need to become avid readers--and we will do the rest. I selected high interest texts that are at my student's reading levels and will help them to become independent readers. They will be used during silent reading time. Students will select books that are of interest to them to keep in their book boxes for the week and read over and over again! At this age, listening to books is as beneficial as reading them! I also plan to read these stories aloud to the class during our reading workshop time.
