Our classroom library is a work in progress. We need more books for the kids to read at their independent reading level. We are slowly growing our collection with the help of donations from grants, my school administration, scholastic book clubs, and parents. Last year, we started book clubs, and the kids love getting together and reading and discussing the books with their peers. This year, I have the privilege of joining a professional learning community with other teachers from my school to use the Lucy Caulkins Reading Workshop program. I saw so much excitement and love for writing when we started the writing workshop program last year. I can't wait to see the students' love for reading grow this year. Each time we add a new book to our classroom library, the kids get so excited and cannot wait to get their hands on it to read!
