The first few weeks of a new school year are full of excitement. We spend time getting to know one another and figuring out what the year has in store for us. The first few weeks of this school year have shown me that my students need to move. While discussing our favorite and not so favorite parts about school, the number one not so favorite part were the chairs that the students sit in. A student told me that the chairs were just too hard to sit on. Other students started to chime in saying that they wished they could sit on seats that were squishier and allowed them to move. This project will allow my students to focus on learning while keeping their bodies active. Studies show that as children constantly move their bodies to maintain balance, they are able to focus more easily. In our classroom we want learning to happen. Therefore, flexible seating in the form of Balance balls, Peanut Ball chairs, and Wobble cushions will provide the students with a variety of seating options. Each student's learning experience will be enhanced by allowing them the freedom to choose where to sit.
