LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! There are a lot of exciting happenings in our school, our community, and the world! I want to give my students the power to report on these to our school family through a newscast program. The program lends itself to the integration of many subjects, including writing, reading, math, and social studies. In addition, students will use technology in a way they have never used it before! Using their school iPads, students will create thoughtful questions and interview students, teachers, and community members who have a story or message to tell. They will also construct scripts that will engage their viewers. By implementing a green screen, our reporters will set the stage with ever changing possibilities. All other materials requested are needed to make our newscast more successful and interesting. The tripods will allow students to record with accuracy and stability. Students will use the microphones to interview and record peers, teachers, and community members. Using the Google cardboard, students will captivate their audience with virtual field trips around the world. I am not looking to make the next Katie Couric or Matt Lauer, but instead giving my students a voice and opportunity to create stories that are important to them and share them with others.
