By creating an engaging environment with flexible seating options, structure, and a variety of ways for students to learn and practice new skills our students will become life-long readers. Students who need to wiggle love sitting on exercise balls and are better able to focus. Students crave structure and by knowing how much time is left for an activity feel more comfortable and in control, a very visible and child friendly timer will help them build stamina and regulate their attention. Hands-on activities allow students the ability to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways and build fine-motor skills. By using puzzles, unifix cubes, follow along letters, and sequence cards students are able to practice the skills they've learned in a fun and engaging way. Learning vowels and vowel sounds is a key to reading success. The vowel owls sorting set is fun way to help children build a flexible understanding of vowels and their importance in words. The students in our Reading Intervention Program have a unique opportunity to learn in a small-group setting. Multi-sensory teaching and learning have been proven to support all students, but especially those that are struggling the most. These materials will make the biggest difference to these students as they will be able to practice their new skills in a way that engages and supports their learning differences.
