The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything. The bookshelves will be used to create partitions that can give students a sense of privacy and help provide a safe setting. More shelves will also allow for displays of books and covers that will naturally attract students to the library. The book bins will allow for books to be organized by genre, topics, and by the students' various reading levels. Comfortable seating will help create a comfortable atmosphere while allowing ample space for a small group of 6 to 8 children at a time. This project will help my students feel comfortable and confident when exploring literature in a leveled and organized classroom library. By promoting students' interactions and involvement with books in the classroom library we will increase reading achievement for all students. Many of my students are not comfortable when reading or exploring books because of their specific learning disabilities. Studies have shown that the more contact children have with books, the better readers they become. This library will be used in a variety of ways such as for quiet reflection and reading, story reenactments, and literature reviews and discussions.
