Physical Education can sometimes be lost in a school's curriculum. A quality P.E. program implements activities that help support teamwork, social skills, loco-motor movements, sports and much more. It can even reinforce reading and math that is taught in the classroom. When money is not in the budget, equipment cannot be purchased and old equipment is over used. It is important to keep equipment up to date and to introduce new items that help facilitate learning. With this money I plan to purchase equipment to introduce new games and invigorate the old activities. Badminton is a great game that reinforces teamwork and fitness and why we could really use some portable badminton nets. Technology in P.E. is also a very important aspect in student learning. When students are able to relate to different athletes from various sports they are not familiar with, they are more likely to try new activities. Not having a laptop makes it hard to integrate technology in the gym. Having this equipment we can show different fitness videos and introduce new games to help keep the students active and engaged. We also like assigning leaders and having students take responsibility for cleaning up and having portable carts would make it easier for students to succeed. With having the gymnasium taken away at any moment we have to move to the classroom. This equipment would also help with having a quality activity while in the classroom that engages both the brain and the body. I believe it is important to teach a variety of skills as well as showing the importance of physical activity and fitness in a child's life. The entire Ellington community would be extremely grateful with whatever can be donated to help achieve this wonderful equipment.
