Building fluency helps students to read better and helps to aide in their reading comprehension. My students work in collaborative learning groups in reading based on needs and skills. With the help of a listening center that has the capabilities to use CDs, cassettes and digital media, my students will be able to read-along with fluent readers in a small group setting. For my students who have not yet mastered phonics, they can still read stories that are age as well as developmentally appropriate but also be able to practice sounds in an easy and fun way. For my advanced students, they can learn how to use punctuation to read expressively. Some students have better auditory comprehension and this method will address this strength. Just plain and simply who doesn't love to listen to stories read to them.
