My philosophy of education is that the role of schools is to provide students with the tools they need to live a life that is meaningful to them, so that when they are elderly they can look back and be thankful and satisfied with the choices they made. I don't think that there is a specific reading level attached to that goal, but continuous growth and engaged learning is a fundamental requirement for a life lived well. I use a combination of student-centered learning projects and hands-on experiences to develop my students not only as learners, but as human beings and as leaders. We lead Positive School Climate initiatives and read to kindergarteners who idolize us "big kids." My resource room is open three days a week for intensive learning in small groups. The other two days of the week, I visit my students in their classrooms to support inclusion and success, and to co-teach lessons in all content areas.
