The chairs and alternative seating would provide seating options to students in my classroom, as well as in the general education environment. Some students become frustrated when they are uncomfortable, or prolonged sitting can be a trigger, therefore removing that trigger by replacing the seat would help to regulate behavior and mood. Students could use the bunjo chair or the wiggle seats to help regulate. This provides a comfortable alternative, that provides some sensory feedback for students who need assistance. They are portable and can move with the students, and they have a home in my classroom. The gardening supplies are to help us continue to grow and cultivate the small garden we started last year. We planted lavender, mint, and herbs to help calm our moods, as well as used gardening as a calming and relaxing activity that students can continue to use in their daily lives. Studies have shown that outdoor activities, such as gardening and working with soil can improve your mood. We would like to grow more things, potentially food, to learn about body health and nutrition and its effects on mood and behavior. This will be used to teach how various foods can effect are physical state and mental mood. The sensory supplies such as Yoga Calm, the building blocks, and the therapy bands can be used as strategies to help calm down or regulate after students have escalated or used as a proactive strategy to stay regulated. Students can create with the blocks to refocus their energy and their minds, following our classroom-created "cool tools", and they can use the bands to regulate their body and release energy. The Yoga Calm can be used to teach mindfullness. The more self-aware they are, the better they are at identifying strategies to regulate.
