In order to really engage young students during direct instruction it's important for the teacher to demonstrate a lesson from their view point. The portable white board lets students view content up close. They get a better view of me modeling content and are less apt to get distracted. This is especially important because of the variety of attention and learning styles within the room. The portable white board also helps students become more independent as learners. They may refer to the modeled lesson as they work on a learning task. The white board is easy to move and view.
