Quality materials for reading French language are hard to come by. Students need more than stories, more than readers, more than classic literature to create the relevant experience learning another language can be. Authentic target-language magazines are rich in relevant and interesting content--perfect to ignite the interest of teenagers who have yet to get excited about language and exactly what is needed to meet the needs of those students already craving that exposure. My students are always browsing websites to find interesting stories they can tackle at their own levels. These can be difficult to find and are rather time-intensive in terms of research. The French-language Scholastic magazines are the perfect levels, content and subject matter, and exciting immersion experience my students need.
