Do you come home day after day and sit in the same exact seat? Where we want to make ourselves at home depends on the activity we are doing and the mood we are in on that particular day. Kids are exactly the same! By providing them with a variety of seating options, I hope to create an environment that is comfortable and accommodating to all learners. The Balance Balls will give my more active students who need to be in constant movement the ability to move while at a table completing written tasks. The wobble cushions give the same opportunities for movement while working but with the flexibility to be used while sitting on the floor or in a traditional chair. The stools will give the students who work best while sitting still an alternative to a traditional classroom chair. The mats and lap trays will allow students to work on the floor if that is their preference. Once this flexibility in seating is achieved, students will be able to become more engaged in learning tasks and will be able to move and work in a variety of group and individual situations. Research has shown that some benefits of flexible seating classrooms are happier and more engaged students, improved grades, more student participation,and more invigorating conversations.
