The sensory tools that have been chosen for this project are for our self-contained autism classroom at Sequoyah Elementary school in Oklahoma City. Children with autism having difficulty understanding their place in the world, often needing skills taught that typical children learn through observation. These include sensory skills to learn their place in the environment, basic social skills to get along with others in their world, and communication skills to understand their place in their environment. Our students are in need of items and activities that they can use to explore their environment, learning basic social, communication and sensory skills. We have chosen a sensory bin with different textured materials, bean bag chairs for them to feel secure sitting in while in the classroom. and a rug to provide a comfortable environment. All of these materials have been thoughtfully considered for our students and what their current needs are in their school environment. We know with a welcoming and comfortable environment our students will excel. Thank you for your consideration of helping our students.
