One of the focuses in the 5th grade science curriculum is the "nature of science," which is all about how scientists come to know what they know, and how they communicate that to the public and to each other. Our 5th graders are going to have a firsthand experience with this, as they are going to be participating in a science fair, where they come up with their own research question, develop their own research procedure, conduct their research, and then present their findings to their community. Presentation materials can be expensive, but these students deserve an immersive experience wherein they can present their findings as young scientists. The markers, construction paper, and tri-fold poster boards will all be used by the students as a part of the science fair.
