As 6th graders enter my room each year I hear the same things over and over again, "reading is boring" "ugh reading is too hard - it's always on tests". Their experiences have blinded them to the stories that are out there waiting for them. My greatest wish is to capture my student's curiosity with stories from all genres. I have seen first hand what falling in love with a book and its characters can do for a child in this community. One story can breathe hope and faith into even the most dire of circumstances. My goal for this year is to provide opportunity to make choices about the books they read this year - to fill shelves with exciting novels at all reading levels and genres such as these I have requested. The library I have now can not solely support the reading of my 60 Language Arts students. Please help my students find the stories that make them come back to my library for more.
