I want to build learners that actively pursue answers to their science questions. My classroom students have a variety of special needs. Using hands-on materials from the Building Brick STEM Challenge Kit or Can Do! Science Discovery Kits will greatly enhance their science and math skills/interests. Regardless of where they are on skills, they are budding scientists that observe, explore and experiment! My classroom is setting up a program called “Scientist of the Week”. Students will choose the experiment with-in a topic. Each student will present their project in front of the classroom. The lesson will help students meet research standards, speaking and presentation standards. Both the presenter and observer will learn critical thinking skills, organization, and how to work together. The students will write a summary of what was presented, something new they learned, and what they thought about the experiment. The student scientist will submit a report of supplies, directions, and science skills taught through the experiment. This will make science fun!
