Students receiving special education supports need to learn skills to make them as independent as possible. My students will work hard this year on reading, math, science and social studies, along with their own goals for independence. What better way to tie all these skills together than COOKING. With this fun classroom activity students can practice READING with recipes, MATH with measuring, SCIENCE with mixing, WRITING with recipe sheets, and SOCIAL STUDIES by finding recipes from their cultures. In fact, cooking is an excellent way to bring together all the skills we work on in class! FINE MOTOR SKILLS? no problem, let's mix some cookie dough! SPEECH? we must communicate to share supplies and food! SOCIAL SKILLS? we will all celebrate our successes around the table, talking about our delicious food. Most importantly, students will have fun learning!
