The opportunity to experience STEM challenges with hands on activities will engage the students while allowing them to explore the concepts. In the classroom, we have designed and constructed items out of everyday materials, such as pipe cleaners, tubes and Legos, but having a preconstructed kit with all of the materials will improve their STEM understanding. This STEM focus has been eye opening for the students as they have realized that, no matter how young they are, they can design and build real life, useful items! They are proud of the things that they create. The more items and concepts that I can expose my students to, the deeper that they will explore. I believe that they will continue to grow in their understanding of STEM and learning.
