My students come to learn in a building that is 103 years old. Although we take pride in our school, it needs many upgrades including new furniture. Having new tables and chairs that are the "perfect fit" for my fourth graders would start every school day off on the right foot! Providing my students with a safe, comfortable place to sit and work is vital to their learning! Being able to work in a cohesive group and as a team will improve their social skills and ability to compromise and work together. It will also give us the opportunity to replace many of our desks and chairs that are broken, wobbly and too small for fourth graders. Our building is part of the AVID program which helps prepare students for high school and beyond. Learning how to sit with a group, stay focused and work together is a huge component of this program. New tables and chairs for our classroom would give the students many opportunities daily to practice these vital skills.
