With a set of tablets in my classroom, students can regularly access technology every day. Students who have a tablet in the room can access our textbook online. They can re-read assigned articles at their own speed or reading level. They can do research and write about their findings. They can digitally publish their writing, or even connect with other students in other schools! We have limited technology in our school. What IS available must be shared between 40 teachers and 5 administrators. Regardless of what we are required to share, I still have to teach to my required learning standards, which includes things like comparing multimedia versions of texts, using technology to produce and publish writing, and including multimedia components and visual displays in student work. A classroom set of tablets would make a world of difference in how my students will learn and operate on a daily basis. I could have a 100% digital classroom. Students will be more engaged and likely to participate in class projects and discussions. Increased student engagement means students have a desire to succeed.
