For our newest readers to become lifelong readers, they need to learn how to decode accurately and effortlessly right from the start. Our focus on foundational literacy skills in Kindergarten through 2nd Grades ensures that students move into upper grades as confident, fluent readers. This requires a lot of explicit teaching, feedback and practice. Decodable texts are an essential tool for early reading instruction. Decodable texts provide the practice that new readers need to master decoding, but they are typically expensive and hard to find! Funding this project will ensure that our Wildcats have access to a rich decodable text library. Research shows that with explicit and systematic instruction in the building blocks of reading, ALL children will learn to read. With your help, we can ensure this outcome for our students.
