When I began as the librarian in our school, the books were very old and outdated. In addition to this problem, my school contains a large number of students who do not have access to books in their homes. Therefore, the books from our library were the only books many children had to read for enjoyment, and they were not books which they would have chosen to read. Because having access to books for independent reading plays heavily on a child's reading development, it was imperative to improve the school's library book collection . During the last few years I have diligently tried to update the books in the school library. Teacher and student requests play heavily on the books which are ordered. Unfortunately, because of the cost of library books, it takes time to revamp a library. The books chosen for this project are all books that students ask for but have not been available in our library. I have chosen biographies for my very youngest readers and biographies and sport books for my older readers. If the project is completed, I will have a building full of happy readers!
