I am requesting a kidney shaped small group/activity table so I am better able to pull small groups for literacy intervention and small group instruction. Research shows that just 20 minutes of intensive reading instruction can help a student go from slightly below grade level to on-grade level in reading. Most of my 2nd grade students are reading on a kindergarten level. My goal this year is to not only help my students read on grade level, but to instill a joy of reading in them. In order to effectively do this, we need a separate work space in the classroom that will be conducive to small group work. A kidney shaped table allows the students to sit around me so they can easily see me and I can easily see them.
