I am requesting 2 computers with DVD players that will be used to incorporate technology into our music lessons. In particular, various musical games that introduce and reinforce different music concepts. This will also allow scholars to research a number of musical topics we might be studying at any given time I am also requesting a number of pitched instruments that we will learn to play and eventually use in performance. The recorders will be used with a science project where we fill glasses with water and tap them to try and match the pitches played on the instruments. Scholars will have to vary the amount of water in each glass in order to achieve the desired pitch, learning how sound is produced along the way. In addition, these instruments will be used use in conjunction with history lessons that focus on the era when the instruments were created, how they were made, the music that came from that period as well as major historical events that may have taken place. There are non-pitched percussion instruments on my list to help students learn different rhythms. This reinforces the mathamatical concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division along with fractions. These instruments also encourage movement activities in the classroom that allow scholars to express themselves physically and help them improve coordination.
