Fitness stations are an important part of our PE program. We have tried different ways to incorporate student choice and interest into these fitness stations. The students have asked for ways to incorporate technology into these fitness stations. A 4th grade student had looked up several fitness applications using their smartphone at home. This student presented the idea of using an iPad in one of our fitness stations. The idea was for students to have the choice of various fitness apps and to choose which exercise they would do using these apps. After doing some research we have found a great number of fitness apps but are specifically excited about the various apps for Jumping rope, as this will link directly to our Jump Rope for Heart unit. The students are also excited about: Yoga, basketball skills, strength exercises, and circuit workouts. The idea came full circuit with the discovery of the Reflector app, which allows the students to control what is projected using the iPad. This can be used with small groups and whole groups. In addition to this the students all had the idea of filming themselves doing various sports skills. This includes kicking a soccer ball, shooting a basketball, and throwing a football. A 5th grade student came up with this idea, and the students were very excited about this! Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this project. The students are very excited about it and looking forward to finding new ways that this tool can be used in the gym and outside!
