My students are eager for current scientific information! We cover the concepts of: the Rock Cycle, Plate Tectonics, cell structure, human body systems, and simple machines, just to name a few. Plate tectonics will always be...plate tectonics. However, my students ask probing questions like, "Do earthquakes and volcanos effect the atmospheric conditions?" Cell structure will always be, just that, cell structure. However, they ask, "How do scientists discover medicines in other countries to help people with diseases here?" The Scholastic Science World magazine is an excellent publication that brings up to date scientific findings, studies, and discoveries to students in the school setting. I plan to make this publication a part of my monthly curriculum. The binders and sheet protectors will be used for storage and protection. Keeping each copy stored in a binder will ensure continued use through the school year. I have found in my teaching experience that students love holding a book. In this case, a captivating magazine. They often seek it out over and over again. I plan to keep the magazines handy for that purpose!!
