My firsties are learning to love reading and loving finding books that interest them at their level. It's great to give my students the freedom to choose books that interest them to help create an early love of reading. The bookshelves in our classroom are 6 ft. tall. This poses a problem for my 6 and 7 years old students. During their book exchanges, many times the book bins on the tallest shelves fall to the ground or on the students themselves. Many times because those books aren't eye level or below, my students don't even look and see what great books are in those upper bins! For years my firsties haven't been able to see what books are on the top shelves. This project can change all of that! I can't wait to get shorter and longer bookshelves for them to use! I have a huge collection of books and many aren't being discovered by these young people. It's time those books get some love.
