In kindergarten, it is crucial for students to utilize their cognitive and fine motor skills with hands-on activities such as interactive notebooks and engaging classwork. In order to ensure that students can successfully complete these goals, it is essential that they have the supplies to do so with pencils, pencil sharpeners, crayons, glue sticks, paper, chart paper and scissors. These materials will allow for students to have everything they need in ELA (English Language Arts), Math, Social Studies, and Science. Kindergarten is the foundation for these students' academic careers and it is essential that they are prepared to complete interactive notebook activities, classwork, projects, and reading/writing criteria. Students feel so proud to have their hard work displayed in the classroom setting. It boosts their confidence and self-esteem which is crucial for kindergarteners to establish in order to build a strong foundation for their academic careers. Student organization is also a very important part of being a successful student. These young learners must have their supplies put away in an organized manner which is why the chair pockets will allow for them to keep supplies in order. Students also need the opportunity to transition from desk to circle time on the rug. Kinesthetic learners need movement in order to stay focused and engaged. Student library time is so important for beginner readers because they need to build a love for literature. Making my library area comfortable and accessible for students by adding bean bag chairs and pillows, will allow for reading to be fun for my students.
