As a classroom with only two student desktop computers and an ActivBoard, a set of two iPads would impact my class profoundly. The use of technology is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially for U.S. History research, but only having the two desktop computers can be very challenging. Having the set of iPads will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom during centers or partner work. One way they will be used is as a research tool. Students can research battles, important leaders, and important events and times through our 5th grade curriculum. Another way the iPads can be used is for skyping with war veterans, presentations, history-related scavenger hunts, making videos, and adding music and pictures to their projects. The set could also be used for creating maps, charts, and graphs when teaching geography and economics. I could download apps for social studies practice skills for center time, which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students.
