I am requesting a class set of ukueles to continue developing my students' musical skills and apply music literacy through a kinesthetic and tactile approach. Through learning to play ukuleles, students can engage in a means of music-making that is engaging, current, and culturally relevant, while also enhancing their musical knowledge and understanding. Additionally, students will be granted a performance opportunity, where they will accompany themselves on their ukuleles while simultaneously singing. The ukulele is perfect vehicle for gaining students' interest in contemporary music, and grants them another musical vehicle in which to express their talents and gain alternate performance experiences. Many of my students come from families that are not in the financial position to invest in their musical education. These ukuleles will provide students musical opportunities that they may not have otherwise.
