As was mentions, many of my students have spent countless hours working to improve their skills in both reading and math through after school tutoring and pull out time from elective classes. As the year goes on, coming to my class and working on these same programs day in and day out can be challenging and unmotivating. It is my hope that having this project time will provide my students with an incentive to continue to work hard through the spring semester and allow them a creative outlet to the mundane practice they encounter each day. It is through this project that students will have the opportunity to create their own work of art by creating a pattern using a spreadsheet program. Once they are finished with the pattern stage, they will use their computation skills to calculate how many beads will be needed for their creation in various numeric formats and develop a story or poem about the creation they will create. Lastly, with the generous donation of perler beads, they will bring their project to life.
