The need for movement for children with disabilities has been proven in several educational studies. If you visited my classroom it would not be unusual for you to see students standing and doing their work, moving from table to table or laying on our classroom rug. Learning to read and being a strong reader opens the door to academic success. The chairs would enable me to have the students focused during reading group because they would have the ability to move without disturbing the group or others. Small group instruction is so valuable for reading instruction and having the students totally focused would be a dream come true!
