The materials that I am requesting will be used to create 9 "Break Out" education boxes for my 7th grade team. These engaging boxes will create an opportunity for my students to come together in an effective manner and use higher level thinking skills and strategies to "break into" these boxes by solving clues to figure out the combinations of each specific lock. Break Out EDU boxes create a highly engaging atmosphere within the classroom, where students take control over their own learning in an exciting way. For ELA, my students will be provided with clues about Edgar Allan Poe's life and literature, using the answers they find to decode the lock combinations of the locks on their box. They will be engaged in a collaborative effort to research and find answers/clues to the hints provided, eventually working their way through a "learning" process without even knowing it! It's a great way to show students how to research information for "real life" problems. In addition to ELA, these boxes can be used across all content areas, allowing students to partake in exciting "break outs" in all classes!!
