One of the hallmarks of English Literature classes is to foster a love of reading. Like most things, readers and the material they read are varied and cannot always be found in high school English required reading lists. There are many benefits to reading: increased comprehension and analytical skills, expanded vocabulary, better writing, and of course reading is a pleasure unto itself. I’m building my classroom library with important young adult authors to help my students fall in love with reading and to build their comprehension and writing skills. My hope with my classroom library is my students find ‘their’ book, the one that stays with them long after they have finished reading.
