My students are typically struggling students, who are self proclaimed non-readers. They are usually those who have failed standardized tests or been failed by the system. By trying to pair each student with the right books, I can foster an interest in reading with an end goal of helping develop a life-long love of reading. Many of these challenged students have never seen the world outside their own town, so they have limited background knowledge. Helping them expand their background knowledge can lead to an appreciation of reading and open up whole new worlds of opportunity and exploration.
