My students are expected to understand and respond to a variety of different genres of texts. They need to compare texts with similar themes as well as compare and comprehend both audios and videos. Scope Magazine will provide them with the opportunity to do of all of things. The magazine includes writing prompts for varying genres, nonfiction, drama, paired texts, fiction, grammar, editing, videos, online activities, audio versions of texts, and it is CCSS aligned. All of the above is presented in a format that appeals to eleven and twelve year-olds with topics they find interesting The magazine will keep my students engaged while helping them to increase their knowledge of the world outside of our small community, and to learn the standards required by CCSS.
