I am new teacher trying to give my students the best education possible. This Donors Choose project will help our classroom prosper with reading, math, and science. I am trying to incorporate centers to help my students develop a love of learning. A CD/cassette player will enhance the students' opportunities to hear read alouds, which they LOVE! I have several books on cassette but currently do not have the ability to play the tapes at the moment. We just finished a novel study on Hatchet and they have been begging for more books to read as a class or in groups. The CD/cassette player and headphone splitters will provide this opportunity for multiple students at one time. Also, we are trying to incorporate hands-on-learning in science. We are a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school and are striving to give the students as many opportunities to learn through experience as possible. I want to give them the opportunity to see things up close and personal. A class set of hand lenses and a couple of microscopes will give them the chance to explore nature as closely as possibly. While we work on new concepts in the classroom the one thing my students struggle with is basic math facts. Flashcards are a great way for them to develop fluency with multiplication and division so we can move on to more complicated concepts such as dividing multi-digit numbers and eventually fractions.
