My students need rich literature that encompasses both fiction and nonfiction. My students will use these materials in order to master their phonics skills, build background knowledge, expand their horizons, stimulate creativity, and help them build rich vocabulary. These materials will be used during Learning Center times, Whole Group Reading, Guided Reading, and in daily homework reading assignments. By being exposed to rich literature, students will also be using this literature in writing as well. By using Lucy Calkin's reading and writing curriculum, these materials will only heighten my students' lessons, assignments, and read alouds. Your generous donation to our project will improve our second grade classroom by building stronger readers and writers. This will change our students' lives for the better. They will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
