Kinesthetic learning enables a more effective understanding and retention of information. I have found that using manipulatives helps keep students engaged while having fun learning. Students in my class will use the manipulatives in centers and in whole group instruction. Many students lack real world connections, so I like to do several lessons with money. They also learn place value and adding and subtracting decimals while they think they are simply "playing with money." Dry erase boards will be used on a daily basis to engage students during intervention rather than using the standard paper and pencil. They love writing on and erasing the boards and they look forward to working in the teacher led small group.
