Every week 800 art students enter my classroom ready to embark on a new art adventure. On an extremely limited budget, we create masterpieces with paper, pencil and paint. I dream of the day in the future when my students will create art digitally on iPads. This amazing tool will provide my students experiences that they couldn’t have in any traditional medium. They are learning to work in layers with transparency, zoom for more detail, various paint brush sizes, resize/crop/rotate to create magical compositions. In addition, lessons can be cross-curricular focusing on not only on art but science and math as well. The possibilities are endless with tablets in the classroom. A teacher's job is to equip their students with the adequate skills necessary to become knowledgeable, productive citizens of the world. Believing in the previous statement, as an educator I must teach my students to create art digitally in order to be successful in the 21st century. Students will learn how to collaborate, share, research, and communicate with technology during their art process on the iPad. Imagine if Leonardo DaVinci had access to an iPad.
