Our school media center is ten years old and a blank space. Students barely visit it. I am transitioning from being a classroom teacher to the media specialist (librarian) at the school and I want to attract students to the media center and engage them in educational activities. A maker space in the media center is the way to go! After conducting online research and speaking to other media specialists, I found that maker spaces are highly popular especially when there are legos involved. These supplies will help me start our schools first maker space. In doing so students will be able to practice STEM skills and be motivated to visit the media center to engage in fun educational tasks which in turn hopefully will increase books being checked out and read as well.
