Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what's printed on the page. Through hearing stories, children are exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read. My students need engaging reading texts to improve their reading comprehension. My students love reading short texts. They love identifying the main idea and details, as well as cause and effects. These shorter texts allow students to dig deeper as they read. My students know they are reading detectives and reading helps to build their confidence. Obtaining these materials will be very influential with my students.
