This year our school is moving into an innovation year. We have created a focus in our building surrounding global perspectives, specifically with the theme of human rights. I am excited to take on a challenging topic with my students and engage them to think proactively about the world around them. Through the use of Time for Kids, I can begin to engage my students in reading articles about things happening in our community and around the world. These resources can not only engage my students in this struggle but give me a platform to initiate discussions and critical thinking at this age level. In addition to having Time for Kids, I want my students to have more choice in what they are reading, while still building their reading ability. Having a leveled fiction library will give them choice while maintaining control so that they are not reading books that are too hard or too easy for them. Allowing students to carry their books in a nice canvas book bag helps them to feel more responsible for their resources and have ownership for their learning.
