Do you remember trying something new in front of your peers? I remember it like yesterday and it still gives me chills. Readers in my classroom do this every day, multiple times. My job is to make each of these new attempts pleasant and actually get them to want to try again tomorrow. Students don't need good luck to become good readers, they need appropriate and timely support. To me, a horseshoe table will allow me to provide students the quick 1:1 support as needed, while still working in a guided reading setting. Students will be able to practice new reading strategies in a safe environment with just me before sharing with rest of the group of children.
