I will use the tablets and headphones so that the students may access programs like Raz-Kids online in center time, where they will be able to listen to books as they see them read, in order to improve their fluency, as well as practice comprehension. I have used this program in the past, but doing it in the computer lab is often too overstimulating for students, and I find their focus suffers. Allowing students to access this program on an individual tablet away from others will help to increase their focus and learning. Finding the right independent reading book for a student who is struggling with reading can be a daunting task, and often is enough to push a student away from reading if they are already feeling intimidated. For the past six years, I've had milk crates to hold and present the books in my room, which makes it very challenging to find a just right book. Having bookcases that will hold many small bins will allow me to sort the books by reading level and genre, making independent reading wholly more accessible for all students. Finally, I will use the tennis balls to cover the legs of the chairs in my classroom. My school has an open-classroom model, and not having doors or complete enclosed walls means that any extra noise has the potential to be distracting. As a result, having the smooth balls to cut the noise of moving chairs will improve the learning of my students, as well as those next to and below us.
